Gen. Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was a fearless Union General. He got General Lee to surrender at Appamatox Courthouse after a weary battle at Gettysburg. Many men lost their lives or they were injured at Gettysburg. He lived from 1822 to 1885. He was a New Yorker and a soldier in the Mexican-American War. He was a President of the United States.
harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was a slave that escaped and freed a lot more in her lifetime. Harriet Tubman was a courageous conducter of the Underground Railroad. `Harriet was an abolistionist. She was devoted to making African-Americans free from the slave owners. She wanted African-Americans to be able to have a job and have a home. The Underground Railroad wasn't a railway but a connection of people who would harbor slaves or fugitives. Most routes of the railroad led people northern states or to Canada.
Gen. Robert E. Lee
Was a Confederate General who had to surrender to the Union. He was born to a very rich family. He lived from 1807-1870. He refused to be the Union General and left the army to lead the Confederate Army. He had served in the Mexican-American war. He graduated from West Point Military Academy. He had a massive stroke on September 28th, 1870 and lingered for two more weeks before he died.
